About the Author

Too Near the Dead Twitter 1

Helen was born in London in 1964. She showed an early leaning towards the arts, having been told off for writing stories under the desk in maths lessons at school.

Helen went on to read Classics at St. Hugh’s College, Oxford, and then worked in marketing for ten years to fund her love of travelling. Her two most memorable travelling days were the one spent exploring Damascus in Syria and the day she went to the Raj Mandir cinema in Jaipur to see the romantic blockbuster Beta.

In 2001, she and her family moved to Bad Münstereifel in Germany. It was exploring the legends of this beautiful old town that inspired her to write her first novel, The Vanishing of Katharina Linden, which is set there.

Helen now lives in Scotland with her husband, her two children and her two cats.

Love, Hope is published today and I am celebrating this in-conjunction with Love Books Tours. It sounds a beautiful book full of positivity for the future, even when it doesn’t seem possible. Take a look down to the blurb to find out what its all about.

Love Hope cover

Blurb

An unexpected letter. An unlikely friendship. A chance to start again.

Ever since she first picked up a violin, Hope Sullivan dreamed of going to music college, joining an orchestra and travelling the world with her best friend Janey. But when her parents were killed in a car accident on the way to one of her recitals, she gave it all up to look after her younger sister, Autumn. Ten years later, Janey is living their dream on her own, Autumn is flourishing as a doctor and Hope’s life is smaller and less musical than ever.

Arnold Quince had the happiest of lives – until he lost his beloved wife Marion. Once the life and soul of the village, he withdrew into his grief and pushed all his friends away. Now, five years on, he is sick, lonely and just counting down the years until he can be with Marion again.

When Hope and Arnold are pushed into writing to one another, neither has any idea how much their life is about to change.

A Rendezvous To Remember
By Terry and Ann GarretsonMarshall

A Rendezvous To Remember

Today I present you with a rather romantic looking book, just in time for the lead up to Valentine’s Day, but all isn’t as simple as it would first appear…. Take a trip into a memoir of the 1960’s as you check out the  blurb and cover I have for you today.
Thanks to Kelly and Meggy atLove Book Tours for inviting me to present you with this material.

A Rendezvous To Remember

Blurb

The true story of a soldier, a pacifist, and the woman who loved them both

In June 1964, Ann Garretson skips her college commencement to tour Europe with Lieutenant Jack Sigg, a tank commander on the German-Czech border, with the hope of returning as his fiancé. A month later, her best friend, Terry, proposes marriage—by mail—throwing all their lives into turmoil.

Jack offers the military life Ann grew up with. Terry, a conscientious objector, will leave for the Peace Corps at summer’s end, unless the draft board intervenes and sends him to jail. Her dilemma: she loves them both. Caught between the old mores and winds of change, Ann must make an agonizing choice.

In alternating voices, A Rendezvous to Remember presents firsthand accounts by the two who eventually married, enriched by letters from the rival, whose path led him elsewhere. Provocative and delightfully uncensored, this coming-of-age memoir is a tribute to the enduring power of love and family.

Praise:

“A love story you’ll never forget.”—Hope Edelman, #1 New York Times best-selling author of Motherless Daughters

“A story about what it means to be human—to struggle with love and what we truly want out of life—especially when being pulled in two different directions. Humorous and heartbreaking, the dueling narrative is stunning, surprising, and inspiring.”—Samantha Vérant, author of Seven Letters from Paris.

Thanks to Ceri Williams, one half of this author duo, for getting in touch with me about their book.

About the Authors,

The Clockmaker author picNeary-Williams is the co-writing team of Andrew Neary and Ceri Williams, based in the Midlands of the UK.
The third member of our team is a visual artist based in the Netherlands. Priscila Rodriguez Aranda worked closely with us to create a cover that reflected both the content and the genres of the book.
This is the first time we are co-writing and we are really excited about how dynamic our partnership is .

The Clockmaker

Blurb

The Clockmaker is the first in an upcoming series of gripping supernatural books by Nottingham based Ceri Williams and Drew Neary.
Widowed in World War 2, Annette and her young son face a completely different life as they exchange the devastation of post-blitz London for the slow pace of a small village. The house they have inherited is old, its bones still settling, creaking noises in the dead of night and the murmur of scritch-scritch in the walls. Located outside the village of Lochnagar, it’s been empty for many years.
The unfolding of how the Clockmaker made his plans, his meticulous preparations and macabre creations, all builds up to a series of gruesome, horrific murders. These have just one end in view: his release from that which has held him captive for centuries.

The sequel to the Clockmaker will be out in 2021. The Perfect Child.

What the authors say:

“The Clockmaker is a character in the much larger Novel – Optics. When we put some extracts on our website, we received acclaim, and requests to develop the minor characters further. That was when The Clockmaker was born,” comment debut authors Ceri and Drew. The authors are currently arranging a series of book launches around the local area and have engaged various local writing groups with their debut.
A chilling supernatural novel with characters you’ll come to care for, The Clockmaker will interest anyone who fears the dark – and what might lie in the shadows…

What people are saying about The Clockmaker

‘This tale is fabulously written. There are times that it could have veered off into the “campy” side of horror or supernatural but it never once did that. Instead, it is captivating and will have you mesmerized until the very last page – and then you will want more because this is the first book in a trilogy!

While this story ends well, there obviously are questions that will be answered in subsequent books – and I cannot wait for those books to be written and printed!!

The Clockmaker offers something for everyone’s tastes: history, horror, supernatural, thrills and suspense. I highly recommend it for all.”
