Shoot From The Hip
Improvised Comedy
Review by Louise (Lou)

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Shoot From the Hip, led by Sam Russell and his chums is one of the best improv comedies I’ve seen for a good while. After the review, you will find a link to where you can find out more and purchase tickets.
I’d noticed the guys awhile back in-person and knew they had something great to build on. During lockdown, they did shows online and I managed to catch a couple and saw how far they’d come and were great, despite the challenges faced with linking up online and broadcasting to an audience, but without the interaction of an in-person audience.

Now, they’re at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at the Underbelly – Jersey building and they are most excellent and are excelling in their entirely improvised comedy.

The performances from each of the 4 guys is strong and the vibe is one of positivity and fun from the minute they walk onto the stage. I can honestly say that there is no weak-link. They clearly enjoy and have fun with what they are producing. It oozes from the stage to the audience and it is infectious, in the best possible way. They have their audience in the palm of their hand, even in a packed room.

By means of the audience being invited to shout out subjects and genres, when asked to, games are played and stories are told. The skill from each of the 4 performers is clear and of high quality, with everything running seamlessly, that you can’t help but also watch in awe as to how they do it. Some improv, you can almost see the cogs of brains squeak round as they try to think of what to say or do next. Not with these guys. The Shoot From The Hip team have cracked it!

They are jaw-achingly funny from so much laughter. These guys are good for the soul. Imagine about 1 hour of laughing and smiling from almost the minute people are on-stage to the minute they’re off… and even then you may still have a glimmer of a smile on your face – that is Shoot From the Hip.

Shoot From the Hip are a comedy troop not to be watched and it is exciting to see where it leads them in the future. Watching the energy and creativity of these guys and seeing their improv being of high quality, they are people to watch. I highly recommend you catch them at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I get the feeling Shoot from the Hip are going places.
